Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, my OBGYN office decided to not allow any visitors to any of their appointments. That meant that I would be flying solo (plus Baby Mackey) to our first appointment. Luckily they let me film the ultrasound to show Jake.
Below is the video I filmed on March 18, 2020. The baby is measuring almost exactly on my calculations and it has a strong heartbeat. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
I had chosen my doctor in preparation for Jake and I to begin trying to conceive. I had my first appointment with her to make sure I was "good to go". She told me to go for it, but that it could take some time and to be patient.
After we settled into our home, we decided to begin trying. Our plan was that it would probably take a few months, so we could continue skiing through the spring. To our great joy and surprise, the first time was the charm.
Jake was in Germany working on the new Gigafactory in Berlin when I got two lines on a pregnancy test in early February. I wanted to wait until Jake got home to tell him in some elaborate way, but my reputation as the worst secret keeper was upheld when Jake guessed mere hours after my positive test.
A few days later I told my parents and brother. That weekend I got to tell Jake's dad and brother in person as well as Jake's sisters and mom.
Being pregnant in a pandemic is a crazy experience. There isn't much data on infection in early pregnancy. I'm also listed as "immunocompromised" since I am pregnant therefore more susceptible to catching the Coronavirus. We have tried to be overly cautious and so far we are all healthy and strong!
My symptoms have been mild. I felt totally normal until about week 8 when I started feeling very fatigued and slightly nauseous. I can sleep endlessly and I gag at certain smells, but I'm grateful for the miracle inside me! I am happy and feeling great!
I am so proud and excited to announce that Jake and I are pregnant! We are expecting our new addition in October 2020!
Ever since I was very young I have known two things for sure. The first thing was that I was going to be an Olympic swimmer someday. The second thing was that I was going to be a great mom.
I have always dreamed of this moment. I have never felt more excited about anything in my life. Along with the joy, I also feel incredibly vulnerable with how delicate and precious this life is. I will do anything to protect it, and yet I also know that it is God's child and it is entirely in His hands.
Becoming pregnant has been a revealing encounter of where fear meets faith for me. Every day that passes my faith grows stronger. Please be praying for our baby! We can't wait to meet our precious miracle.
My name is Chloe Sutton and I am the bride to be! I am an Olympic swimmer, Christ-follower, and the VP of Fitter and Faster. Here is where I will blog about the wedding planning process!
